Appointment of Julien Anfruns as New Director General of ICOM

Julien AnfrunsSince October 1st 2008, Julien Anfruns is the Director General of the International Council of Museums (ICOM), the largest international organisation of museums in the world.

Julien Anfruns was in charge of Economic and Financial Affairs at the Ministry of Culture and Communication from 2002 to 2005.  He then became Director of Financial and Legal Affairs at the Louvre Museum (2005-2008). In addition, he participated in strategic development missions for the Louvre both in France and abroad.  He also occupied several diplomatic posts at the United Nations in New York, as well as in Finland and Estonia.

Four major missions
According to Alissandra Cummins, President of ICOM, “Julien Anfruns has the qualities and experience required to stimulate ICOM, to extend the impact of its network, and to unite our network of museum professionals all over the world.
Along with his managerial and administrative duties at the International Council of Museums, Julien Anfruns will act as its operational and intellectual head through four fundamental missions:

    • To act as the spokesperson of ICOM, and to promote the Organisation’s position as a reference for members of the museum community.
    • To strengthen the network of museum professionals with the aim of building up the reputation, scope and visibility of ICOM within the museum community.
    • To seek financial support from private sponsors and public partners.
    • To strengthen the efficiency of ICOM in order to consolidate and improve all services and programmes carried out by the Organisation.
