1995 "Response and Responsibility"

1995 Bibliography (1990-1994)

Solidarity between museums: Response and Responsibility

For this year's International Museums Day 1995 on the theme of "Response and Responsibility" which covers as it does so many aspects of museum life, from the everyday (conservation, budgets, security) to the exceptional (war, natural disasters, legal quandaries), we have chosen to concentrate our bibliography on those aspects which represent solidarity between museums, lending a helping hand, technical exchanges, etc. both on the international, institutional scale and on the more personally empowering, one-to-one level as described in William Tramposch's excellent article in the next issue of ICOM News. We hope these references will spark off ideas which you may put into action where you are and with those with whom you may interact wherever they may be, and do please let us know of any such activities so we can `spread the good news'!

This bibliography is far from complete and is intended just to stimulate suggestions for things you might do to interact with colleagues in a somewhat more original manner. The references were drawn from:
Museum News (1990-1994), Aviso (1994), Curator (1990-1994), Muse (1987-1994), La lettre des musées de France (1992-1994), Musées et collections publiques de France (1993-1994), Museums Journal (1993-1994), The Art Newspaper (International edition, 1993-1994).
We would also direct your attention to back issues of ICOM News, the newsletters of the various ICOM International Committees, and UNESCO's Museum International.
